Above all I wanted the artwork to act as a tribute to the area, as it is families like these that embody the hard-working, honest and authentic spirit of the St Peters community.
About the building:
City Star Motors
85 Crown St, St Peters
Established over 30 years ago by Ross Firth an ex-racing car driver, this local business offers expert mechanical repairs and restoration on classic and modern-day vehicles. The workshop is filled with vintage trucks and collectible classics.
For this particular piece I wanted to capture a sense of nostalgia by focusing on the history, culture and strong sense of family, making and collaboration that is apparent in each business.
As both Antoniou Fillo Pastry and City Star Motors have been in operation for a long time (Antoniou Fillo Pastry for 60 years and City Star Motors for 30 years), it was important to be able to tell a story that truly reflects the humble beginnings of these two proud local businesses.
Antoniou Fillo
81-83 Crown St, St Peters
Antoniou Fillo started in 1960 by Chris and Marina Antoniou in a small shop, alongside their tailoring business, in Glebe. It began as a labour of love – a 12 hour labourious process to make the perfect Fillo pastry. Word quickly spread as consumers sought the delicious Fillo pastry. Like a lot of immigrant families at the time, they dreamt of building a secure future for their young family, in 1969 they took a huge business risk and opened the small factory in St Peters - filled with custom-built Fillo machines and a Kataifi machine – the factory became a leading producer of Fillo pastry, Kataifi Pastry and Fillo pastry products for food service, delicatessens and supermarkets across Australia and Asia.
The new factory has re-located in Moorebank.

Sydney street artist revered for his capacity to combine detailed site specific stories and references with contemporary culture and pop.
Alex's style references virtually every major art movement of the twentieth century, twisting them through his own bold hand, and tossing them haphazardly onto his canvas to create a melee of captivating chaos, Alex Lehours approaches his art making with a decidedly ‘more is more’ attitude.
His CV is replete with big names including Armani Exchange, Facebook, The National Gallery of Victoria, Converse, Platypus Shoes, Adobe, Disney, Foot Locker Australia, Marvel and BMG Music. Skilled in painting, illustration, mural work, graphic design and typography, Lehours has become an essential member of Australia’s stable of multi-disciplinary graphic artists.
